Why Stay2Play?

Born from a long-standing WhatsApp group of local dads – affectionately known as the Chippenham Dads – Stay2Play was created to fill a clear and pressing gap: the lack of a dedicated, interactive, and physical play space for young children in our town.

For a place the size of Chippenham, the absence of a soft play facility is surprising. In a time when children increasingly face isolation in a digital world, our shared vision was to reverse that trend – to give young children a place to connect, be active, and learn vital social skills in a safe and welcoming environment.

But Stay2Play isn’t just for the kids. Just as important is the space it offers for parents and guardians – a chance to relax, connect, and support one another in a world that often feels relentless.

At the heart of our ethos is accessibility. Stay2Play will always be free to attend. We believe cost should never be a barrier to participation, and that every child deserves the chance to play, learn, and grow on a level playing field.

As we launch and grow, we warmly welcome more parent and guardian volunteers to help make this project thrive – for the benefit of our children, our families, and our wider community.

A group of children is participating in a game where snacks are tied to strings and hung from above. One child is looking up at a piece of food hanging in front of him, wearing a blue shirt with a pattern. Another child in the background is waiting for their turn. Some adults are holding the strings. Flags and festive decorations are visible, indicating a celebration or event.

James

Dad of two boys, Pharmacist and town councillor for Lowden & Rowden. I have always found it surprising how little there is for our young people in terms of places to play in the town on weekends. I am therefore a massive advocate for what Stay2Play seeks to do.

Several young children are sitting and kneeling on the ground, wearing uniforms with white shirts, red skirts, and blue scarves. They appear to be engaged in an activity, possibly drawing or writing, as they hold markers or pens in their hands. They are outside, and the ground is paved, with shadows indicating sunlight.
